My volunteer shift typically starts and ends by cleaning the infusion playroom making sure toys, books, and surfaces are sanitized. Children in infusion tend to be immunocompromised, and though it does not seem like much, it keeps our patients safe.

The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Spread Joy Toy Drive is a holiday tradition and a way for the community to give back. The children love receiving gifts and meeting Santa during the holiday season. It is a big task, but one that makes us joyful to see the generous hearts of others.

I created Jared Boxes for girls (pre-school and school-aged) that contained dress-up items, playdough, ponies, and stickers. When buying items for the boxes, I tried to keep in mind that the toys I purchased were ones that can be easily sanitized to meet Covid-19 hospital guidelines.

For the safety of the children, faces where cropped and blurred. The name of the church ministry program is also left out. Please refer to my resume for additional information pertaining to this volunteer experience.

During Sunday school, the toddlers would learn about Jesus through a story. Then they would color in a picture that went with the information as we would ask them questions about the story. Next, the toddlers would have music time where they would sing and dance. As the children waited for their parents to come from service, we would play with developmentally appropriate toys such as the tunnel seen in this photo. It taught most children to share, be kind, and be patient as they wait for their turn.
